""Law As A Means To An End"" is a book written by Rudolf von Ihering in 1914. It is a seminal work in legal theory that explores the purpose of law and its role in society. The book argues that law is not an end in itself, but rather a means to achieve a particular end or goal. Ihering contends that the purpose of law is to protect the interests of society and to promote justice. He also discusses the concept of legal rights and their relationship to individual rights. The book is divided into two parts: the first part explores the nature of law and its purpose, while the second part examines the relationship between law and society. Ihering's work has been influential in shaping modern legal theory and continues to be studied and debated by legal scholars and practitioners today. And With Introductions By Henry Lamm And W. M. Le Tartuffe Ou L'Imposteur, a comedy written by Moliere in 1669, is a satirical play that exposes the hypocrisy of religious piety. The story revolves around Tartuffe, a cunning and manipulative impostor who poses as a devout and virtuous man of God to gain the trust and admiration of a wealthy family. Despite his lecherous and selfish behavior, Tartuffe manages to convince the head of the household, Orgon, to marry his daughter to him and transfer all his wealth to him. However, Orgon's family and friends see through Tartuffe's facade and work together to expose his true nature and save the family from ruin. The play is a scathing critique of religious hypocrisy and a celebration of reason and common sense over blind faith. Through its witty dialogue, clever plot twists, and memorable characters, Le Tartuffe Ou L'Imposteur remains a timeless masterpiece of French literature and a testament to Moliere's genius as a playwright. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. High quality leads provide the foundation for the discovery of successful clinical development candidates, and therefore the identi?cation of leads is an essential part of drug discovery. The process for the identi?cation of leads generally starts with the screening of a compound collection, either an HTS of a relatively large compound collection (hundreds of thousands to one million plus compounds) or a more focused screen of a smaller set of compounds that have been preselected for the target of interest. Virtual screening methods such as structure-based or pharmacophore-based searches can complement or replace one of the above approaches. Once hits are identi?ed from one or more of these screening methods, they need to be thoroughly characterized in order to con?rm activity and identify areas in need of optimization. Finally, once fully characterized hits are identi?ed, preliminary optimization through synthetic modi?cation is carried out to generate leads. Parallel optimization of all properties, including biological, physicochemical, and ADME is the most ef?cient approach to the identi?cation of leads. Hit characterization is described in the previous chapter. The focus of this chapter is on hit optimization and the identi?- tion of leads. After a general overview of these processes, examples taken from the literature since 2001 will be used to illustrate speci?c points. There are also a number of excellent reviews covering the lead identi?cation process [1-6].

The much-anticipated new edition of 'Learning the Art of Electronics' is here! It defines a hands-on course, inviting the reader to try out the many circuits that it describes. Several new labs (on amplifiers and automatic gain control) have been added to the analog part of the book, which also sees an expanded treatment of meters. Many labs now have online supplements. The digital sections have been rebuilt. An FPGA replaces the less-capable programmable logic devices, and a powerful ARM microcontroller replaces the 8051 previously used. The new microcontroller allows for more complex programming (in C) and more sophisticated applications, including a lunar lander, a voice recorder, and a lullaby jukebox. A new section explores using an Integrated Development Environment to compile, download, and debug programs. Substantial new lab exercises, and their associated teaching material, have been added, including a project reflecting this edition's greater emphasis on programmable logic. Online resources including online chapters, teaching materials and video demonstrations can be found at: https: //LearningTheArtOfElectronics.com.

"A fascinating glimpse into the consciousness of being an outsider in every possible way, and what it takes to find your path into the life you'd like to lead."--Nylon A riveting memoir of losing faith and finding freedom while a covert missionary in one of the world's most restrictive countries. A third-generation Jehovah's Witness, Amber Scorah had devoted her life to sounding God's warning of impending Armageddon. She volunteered to take the message to China, where the preaching she did was illegal and could result in her expulsion or worse. Here, she had some distance from her community for the first time. Immersion in a foreign language and culture--and a whole new way of thinking--turned her world upside down, and eventually led her to lose all that she had been sure was true. As a proselytizer in Shanghai, using fake names and secret codes to evade the authorities' notice, Scorah discreetly looked for targets in public parks and stores. To support herself, she found work at a Chinese language learning podcast, hiding her real purpose from her coworkers. Now with a creative outlet, getting to know worldly people for the first time, she began to understand that there were other ways of seeing the world and living a fulfilling life. When one of these relationships became an "escape hatch," Scorah's loss of faith culminated in her own personal apocalypse, the only kind of ending possible for a Jehovah's Witness. Shunned by family and friends as an apostate, Scorah was alone in Shanghai and thrown into a world she had only known from the periphery--with no education or support system. A coming of age story of a woman already in her thirties, this unforgettable memoir examines what it's like to start one's life over again with an entirely new identity. It follows Scorah to New York City, where a personal tragedy forces her to look for new ways to find meaning in the absence of religion. With compelling, spare prose, Leaving the Witness traces the bittersweet process of starting over, when everything one's life was built around is gone.
