Mitch Rapp faces an Iranian foe bent on destabilizing the Middle East in this "bloody, electrifying adventure" (The Real Book Spy) from Vince Flynn's #1 New York Times bestselling series, now written by the "worthy successor to Tom Clancy" (Publishers Weekly) Don Bentley. April 2011: On a remote mountaintop overlooking the remains of the Iranian nuclear weapons program, Azad Ashani witnesses the successful demonstration of a new weapons system meant to upend the American-led war in Afghanistan. Ashani, director of the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence and Security and Irene Kennedy's former back channel to the Iranian government, recognizes the demonstration's true significance, and the nation-ending conflict it will provoke. Alone, Ashani stands no chance of preventing this rush to madness. But with the help of one man, he just might. In Washington, DC, CIA director Irene Kennedy briefs the president that the operational window to kill or capture Osama bin Laden at his recently discovered compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan is rapidly closing. But before he'll authorize a commando raid on Pakistani soil, the president demands irrefutable proof of bin Laden's presence. Proof he trusts just one man to provide. Preventing a looming war in the Middle East while delivering justice for the nearly 3,000 Americans killed on 9/11 would be a big ask for anyone but Mitch Rapp isn't just anyone in this high-octane thriller that is perfect for "action junkies" (Kirkus Reviews).

#1 New York Times Bestseller A NEW YORK TIMES NOTABLE BOOK. NAMED A BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR BY TIME, THE NEW YORKER, NPR, AP, THE ECONOMIST, SLATE, THE GLOBE AND MAIL, SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN, AND MORE!"Careless People is darkly funny and genuinely shocking...Not only does [Sarah Wynn-Williams] have the storytelling chops to unspool a gripping narrative; she also delivers the goods." -Jennifer Szalai, The New York Times "When one of the world's most powerful media companies tries to snuff out a book -- amid other alarming attacks on free speech in America like this -- it's time to pull out all the stops." -Ron Charles, The Washington Post An explosive memoir charting one woman's career at the heart of one of the most influential companies on the planet, Careless People gives you a front-row seat to Facebook, the decisions that have shaped world events in recent decades, and the people who made them. From trips on private jets and encounters with world leaders to shocking accounts of misogyny and double standards behind the scenes, this searing memoir exposes both the personal and the political fallout when unfettered power and a rotten company culture take hold. In a gripping and often absurd narrative where a few people carelessly hold the world in their hands, this eye-opening memoir reveals what really goes on among the global elite. Sarah Wynn-Williams tells the wrenching but fun story of Facebook, mapping its rise from stumbling encounters with juntas to Mark Zuckerberg's reaction when he learned of Facebook's role in Trump's election. She experiences the challenges and humiliations of working motherhood within a pressure cooker of a workplace, all while Sheryl Sandberg urges her and others to "lean in." Careless People is a deeply personal account of why and how things have gone so horribly wrong in the past decade--told in a sharp, candid, and utterly disarming voice. A deep, unflinching look at the role that social media has assumed in our lives, Careless People reveals the truth about the leaders of Facebook: how the more power they grasp, the less responsible they become and the consequences this has for all of us.

Carlo Acutis was an ordinary teenager who enjoyed soccer, computers, and video games, but he was also committed to Mass, confession, and prayer. He used his computer skills to help people understand the teachings of the Church and to teach about the Eucharist. He was beatified by Pope Francis on October 10, 2020.. Saints are real-life heroes of faith who inspire us to become more like Christ. In this series of beautifully illustrated books for early and young readers ages four to nine, these true stories come to life and connect the children of today with the virtues known as the Beatitudes, which Jesus spotlighted in his Sermon on the Mount.

One July week in 1900 an obscure black laborer named Robert Charles drew national headlines when he shot twenty-seven whites--including seven policemen--in a series of encounters with the New Orleans police. An avid supporter of black emigration, Charles believed it foolish to rely on southern whites to uphold the law or to acknowledge even minimal human rights for blacks. He therefore systematically armed himself, manufacturing round after round of his own ammunition before undertaking his intentionally symbolic act of violent resistance. After the shootings, Charles became an instant hero among some blacks, but to most people he remained a mysterious and sinister figure who had promoted a "back-to-Africa" movement. Few knew anything about his early life. This biography of Charles follows him from childhood in a Mississippi sharecropper's cabin to his violent death on New Orleans's Saratoga Street. With the few clues available, William Ivy Hair has pieced together the story of a man whose life spanned the thirty-four years from emancipation to 1900--a man who tried to achieve dignity and self-respect in a time when people of his race could not exhibit such characteristics without fear of reprisal. Hair skillfully penetrates the world of Robert Charles, the communities in which he lived, and the daily lives of dozens of people, white and black, who were involved in his experience. A new foreword by W. Fitzhugh Brundage sets this unique and innovative biography in the context of its time and demonstrates its relevance today.

One of the best ways for students or practitioners to learn is through real-life example. In this volume, Clark presents several case studies that can be used not only by those currently working in the industry, but as a means for sparking discussion in food engineering classes. This book has several purposes: (1) to serve as a source of information about a representative collection of food processes with which Clark has had experience; (2) to convey some practical lessons about process development and plant design; and (3) to serve educators as a resource for class problems and discussion. The book is organized in three broad sections. The first concerns processes that are primarily physical, such as mixing. The second concerns processes that also involve biochemical changes, such as thermal sterilization. The third section addresses some broader issues that have not been discussed elsewhere, including how to tour a plant, how to choose among building a new plant, expanding or renovating; and how to develop processes.

My editor had ok'd the story, "The Unveiling of a Quack", and now I faced the man whom the power of the press would squash like a bug."Five times," he said quietly in response to my question, "the Medical Society of the County of New York sent a committee here to investigate my methods. I let them see patients, X-rays, records, everything." "And what were the results of those investigations?""I do not know," Dr. Max Gerson replied. "They have never revealed them."I left Dr. Gerson and wrote the Medical Society of the County of New York, as follows: "We have no feelings one way or the other concerning Dr. Gerson's treatment except that of public responsibility . . . Is there any way we can be advised of the nature of your findings?"Their reply was to embark me on the strangest, most frustrating story of my life ... the story of a man who by absolute record had cured people of cancer, including children, and his incredibly courageous and lonely fight against the forces of organized medicine.
